More Diet Tips
Hi everyone, just wanted to share some more tips that I've found helpful over the years. The key to a healthy eating plan is preparation and consistency. Don't leave anything to chance!
-Prepare and pack your meals, and take them with you in a cooler.
-Keep non-perishable healthy snacks in your desk and car (pouch tuna, low-sugar protein bars, nuts)
-Be mindful of the time and make sure you don't skip meals. This only leads to severe hunger later in the day and usually causes overeating.
-Decide before an event that you will make a committment to eat healthy. Leaving it to chance will almost always result in failure under temptation.
Finally, I'd like to leave you all with this verse and devotional excerpt for motivation and encouragement during tempting times.
Taken from "Encouragement for Today," a daily devotional by Proverbs 31 Ministries (written by Bonita Lillie):
“One day he went into the house to attend to his duties, and none of the household servants was inside. She caught him by his cloak and said, ‘Come to bed with me!’ But he left his cloak in her hand and ran out of the house.’” Genesis 39:11-12 (NIV)
We all have our weak spots and areas of temptation. For some it’s a choice morsel of gossip, for others a steamy romance novel, and still for others it might be overcome by a one-day sale at the mall. For me, the thing that really jolts my flesh is a bright red neon sign that reads, “Hot Doughnuts Now!”
When we face our juiciest temptation, if we will take a split second to start moving away from it, the grip loosens and we are soon free. What was once flaming hot, rapidly cools down and suddenly we realize that we didn’t really need a doughnut after all.
Joseph (in referenced verse) understood some basic rules that will help all of us overcome temptation:
Make up your mind ahead of time. We can’t wait until temptation is upon us to decide not to give in. It’s too late then.
Don’t entertain the thought of sin. Had Joseph been daydreaming about Mrs. Potiphar, he would have followed through with action rather than escaping her clutches. Thoughts precede actions.
Take action. We must be bold in the face of temptation and quick to act. We can’t sit around hoping it will go away. Run in the other direction. Run to God.
temptation
Amen to the article written by Alissa! i have also found that preparation is key to fighting temptation of all varieties. I also pack a cooler with the 6 meals i plan to eat that day ( i work 3 16 hour days per week). It doesn't end there though.....In order to be mentally prepared, i find it crucial to pack my mind with an arsenal of verses. Just as i am laying out my workout clothes and digging my sneakers out from under the bed, i am mentally laying out the verses in my mind.It is crucial to remind yourself that the power within you is the very power that rose Christ from the dead. God does have a plan for each of our lives and in order to fulfill that purpose we must strengthen ourselves with his words as we strengthen our bodies with nutritious foods. When i am at my weakest,I am refreshed by the thought that God's strength will reign supreme. after all, " I can do all things through jesus Christ who strengthens me" as told in Philippians 4:13 and in 2 corinthians I am told that "His power is made perfect in that very weakness". In return for his gift of Grace, I am compelled to love him by my obedience. When i am tempted to feed my daughter something from the drive-thru window and entertain her with the toy that accompanies her meal, I am reminded that "whether we eat or drink or whatever we are doing, she and I must do it for the glory of our God". How much more glorifying must it be to the God of the universe to see our loving exchange at our own kitchen table as we eat from the bounty of fruits and vegetables from His earth. How much more glorifying must it be to him that created us to see us bow our heads in prayer at our table and to be of one mind than to be thoughtlessly rushing through our day. It is too easy to walk shoulder to shoulder with Satan down the wide path when we have not prepared our body and minds against these temptations. This body I have been blessed with is a gift from God and he waits to see how I care for it. My daughter is in my charge at this point in her young life as well. I will obediently care for my families health as a service to him....I long to hear the words "well done good and faithful servant" from my savior when we meet face to face.
