Access/Indulgence/Habits

ChildrenFruitSnack.jpg

My daughter sent me this picture of my grandchildren. It seems they woke this morning before her and decide to get themselves an early morning snack.

Accompanying TEXT message:

"They decided to get a snack!"

We’re all pretty happy to see them devouring some fresh strawberries and blueberries. I’m particularly happy to see a legacy of healthy eating being handed down to the next generation with such enthusiasm (look at those smiles).

It speaks to an important truth we need to individually understand, embrace and promote: God wants us to use our short time on earth to do His good will. Ready or not, TODAY, You will physically impact the spiritual future of others.

What you see at play in this picture are three factors that shape all of us both physically and spiritually: Access – Indulgence – Habits

Be like a little child – let others see you

feasting on the Bible and your relationship with God.

My grandchildren have ACCESS to these foods. When I say access I don’t just mean easy access. I’ve seen them at my home climb on counters and get into upper cabinets to get what I thought was not accessible to them. If it is there – you have access to it. It doesn’t take too much thinking to apply that to both your physical diet and exercise but also to your personal relationship with God.

My grandchildren eagerly INDULGE in these foods. There is a Bible verse that says, “Taste and see that the Lord is good.” When we get a taste of something that is truly good, it is natural to indulge in it. Once we’ve accessed what is truly good we then need to whole-heartedly embrace pleasure and the spiritual practice of indulgence.

My grandchildren are forming HABITS that will last beyond a lifetime. What we do in this physical world routinely without a second thought we can easily identify as habits. But, when it comes to God is He your habit?

Do we consider Him when we speak? Do we include Him in our relationships? Do we acknowledge Him in our personal successes? Do we reach for Him when we are spiritually hungry?
