105 Degrees/105 Reps/Psalm 105

I was on the couch at 1:00pm on a Saturday when the internal dialogue began.

You should work out.

Yeah…I know.

Suddenly, from the depths of my brain, the ROE (Rolodex of Excuses) scrolls to a reliable source. Check your phone to see exactly how blistering hot it is outside.

96 degrees, but it feels like 105.  Better stay put in the AC.

Then another part chimed in with an idea.  Call it what you want…drive, determination, will…stupidity, vanity, ego 🙂

See if you can survive 105 reps in 105 degrees.  Go on…I’m listening.

And after it, read/pray over Psalm 105.

I’m in!  Now this wasn’t about just surviving a hot workout.  I had an agenda and a purpose.  I also had a goal to achieve.  Just get to 105 reps.

So I carried my 24kg. kettlebell a quarter mile to the local park with monkey bars.  For the next 20 minutes, I hit pullups, push-ups, KB snatches, KB high pulls, goblet squats, etc and kept tallying my numbers to 105. Honestly, I breezed by 105 reps in about 15 minutes and I am not sure where I ended up.  Do you notice the vagueness of what I did and how many reps of each I performed?  That is not the point of this post.  I came up with something that got me off the couch and training physically and spiritually in a tough, hot environment.  Find new and creative ways to shut down the excuses and get excited about training.

With sweat dripping on my phone, I looked up Psalm 105.  I have a new name for it…the Cliff Notes of the Old Testament.  It is a great read and I will leave you with this:

Search for the Lord and for his strength; continually seek him. – Psalm 105:4

Live with Strength,

Jason
